More accessible extraordinary exam sessions

In the Computer Science Degree Council (CAD) we opposed, from its very first presentation on 21 March 2024, the proposal to limit the number of extraordinary exam sessions each student could apply for. We challenged a restriction not provided for by the University Regulations and kept raising the issue formally, refusing to accept that a local decision could arbitrarily restrict students' rights.

Through discussions with the University Teaching Commission and the Student Ombudsperson, backed by the official minutes of the central governing bodies obtained through a freedom-of-information request, in March 2026 we got the limit removed for good. Until then, we had still worked to secure alternative ways for students to apply for all the sessions they were entitled to.

In October 2026 we secured a further concrete safeguard: for students who meet the requirements, a regular booking on InfoStud is enough. Not filling in the participation form, which had very tight deadlines, can no longer prevent anyone from sitting the exam.

Events organised for the community

Through the University's call for student cultural and social initiatives, we organised talks with high-profile guests, gathered suggestions on topics and content, and made recordings and materials available.

The next event could start from your idea

We'll collect proposals for seminars, workshops, conferences and other initiatives to submit to the next calls.

Propose an initiative

Our approach

An independent list

It means we can judge every proposal on its merits, without having to defend the interests of associations or groups outside the Faculty.

Working together without barriers

Talking with every student group and with the Faculty's governing bodies whenever it helps achieve results that benefit students.

Channels open to everyone

Information, groups and opportunities shouldn't depend on being a member of a student association.

Starting from real problems

Collecting reports and proposals directly, following them up, and clearly communicating what was done and what the outcome was.

I3S Faculty Assembly

What's the vote for?

You are electing the student representatives in the Faculty Assembly, so that students have a voice in the decisions that directly shape their university experience.

02

Where representation matters

Most of the representatives' work happens in the Faculty Commissions, where students' problems are followed over time and brought to the attention of those responsible for teaching, spaces, services and opportunities.

The hands-on work

The Faculty Commissions

This is where observations and priorities turn into discussion, proposals and action on every aspect of university life.

Listening, traceability, results

01

A point of reference every day

Collecting problems, proposals and feedback on the Faculty's degree programmes, following how they are handled and taking them all the way to the relevant bodies and offices.

You can reach us any day at i3sinsieme@studenti.uniroma1.it , through the I3S Insieme Telegram channel and, after the elections, also through an official Instagram account for the list, which will offer another way to get in touch.

02

Transparency on problems and results

Key updates on the requests we submit, their status and their outcomes, published on our Telegram channel , followed by over 1,000 members, so that our work as representatives stays verifiable and accessible.

After the elections we'll also launch an official Instagram account for the list, to reach students who are more active there with content suited to the format, and to offer another way to contact us via Instagram.

03

Trackable reports

Securing official channels to collect issues and feedback on teaching and forward them to the relevant Commissions, including anonymously.

We want to propose a system, modelled on those already used at other universities, that generates a code each student can later use to check whether their report has been reviewed and what action was taken.

The same system could be used to report problems in teaching spaces, such as insufficient capacity, broken equipment and other service failures.

04

Feedback on exam formats

Proposing an official way for students to give feedback on how courses are assessed too, which is not currently collected by the OPIS course evaluation survey.

This feedback would help check that exams match the course content and are proportionate to the number of credits (CFU), and would make it easier to identify exams that artificially slow down students' progress, along with other issues.

05

More spaces to study

Extending to the other I3S Departments and campuses the model we achieved in the Computer Science Department with study rooms S1 and T1, opening for study any rooms not in use for lectures and official activities.

New spaces to open up

We have found new rooms at the Regina Elena site that are currently closed. One of them is behind the Aula Magna. We want to ask that these rooms, as soon as they are finished and ready to use, be opened to the community as additional study spaces.

06

I3S for digital services

We want to make the most of the expertise in our Faculty by involving students, teaching staff and Department professionals in designing, evaluating and improving the University's digital services.

A concrete example is Infostud: I3S can help renew it with computing expertise, user-centred design, usability testing and training opportunities such as internships, theses, project work and student collaboration grants.

It's a model that has already been tried: Infostud Lab, the previous official app for accessing Infostud services, was developed with contributions from students, interns and PhD students of the Computer Science Department, coordinated by a professor as part of a research lab.

07

A shared wiki for all of I3S

Modelled on sapienzastudents.net , we want to create an open-source wiki maintained with contributions from the student community.

The wiki will gather general information relevant to all degree programmes in the I3S Faculty: guides to services, spaces, opportunities, procedures, useful contacts and resources for finding your way around university life.

Sections for individual degree programmes can be developed together with students and representatives from the different Departments.

08

New events chosen together

As representatives in the Faculty Assembly, we can take part in the University's call for student cultural and social initiatives and use it to organise new seminars, workshops and talks.

Once again we'll collect suggestions from the community on guests, topics and content, turning the proposals that come up into new, concrete initiatives.

09

Discounted software and AI

Finding out what students really need

We want to identify the tools most used across the Faculty's courses and, together with the University, explore institutional licences, plans for universities or other discounted terms that are genuinely useful.

Options to explore

Options worth exploring include Claude for Education , Anthropic's plan for universities, and Overleaf Commons .

Checked before every proposal

We'll only put forward a proposal after checking its availability, cost and usefulness for the student community.

10

Part-time study for online courses

We have already formally raised the issue in the 2025 Annual Report of the Joint Teacher-Student Commission, asking for a review of the exclusion from part-time status for degree programmes taught mainly online.

We want to keep pushing, including in discussions with the new Rector's office, so that students, many of whom work, can make a more gradual study plan official and access the related fee reductions.
